Here is the definition of Laissez-Faire Capitalism:  Laissez-faire capitalism is an economic system. Capitalism involves the ownership of property by individuals. The individual's goal is to use this property, or capital (buildings, machines, and other equipment used to produce goods and services), to create income. Individuals and companies compete with one another to earn money. This competition between companies determines the amount of goods produced and the prices company owners may demand for these goods. The French term laissez-faire literally means "to let people do as they wish." Thus, supporters of laissez-faire capitalism do not want the government to interfere in business matters, or if governments do involve themselves in business matters, to keep government influence to a minimum.

One result of no rules in private enterprise is that a person with money and thus the ability to buy influence (i.e. allot of money equals greater power, political and social) can destroy any chance of a competitor entering the marketplace.

In fact, without rules and law, people tend to be greedy and selfish. Something which is normally well-known. With no law there is no control over anyone with power using it unfairly against someone who is socially and politically weaker. Generally, this is seen as immoral by all religions and philosophies as being ruthless means there is no 'charity' and others must be manipulated to gain even more wealth and control (a never ending process). That is why religious sources tend to be against the 'might is right' belief embedded in Laissez-Faire Capitalism.

The following is a religious explanation(from Christianity) which is naturally against the type of behavior which takes from fellow human beings to the detriment of society;

Darwin's ideas played a critically important role in the development and growth, not only of Nazism and communism, but also of the ruthless form of capitalism as best illustrated by the robber barons. While it is difficult to conclude confidently that ruthless capitalism would not have blossomed as it did if Darwin had not developed his evolution theory, it is clear that if Carnegie, Rockefeller, and others had continued to embrace the unadulterated JudeoChristian worldview of their youth and had not become Darwinists, capitalism would not have become as ruthless as it did in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Morris and Morris (p. 84) have suggested that other motivations (including greed, ambition, even a type of a missionary zeal) stimulated the fierce, unprincipled robber baron business practices long before Darwin. Darwinism, however, gave capitalism an apparent scientific rationale that allowed it to be taken to the extremes that were so evident in the early parts of last century.

The basic argument against Laissez-Faire Capitalism (as opposed to a mixed economy with laws to help keep the market fair - see definition above) is that without rules, ruthlessness and "might is right" reigns supreme. Allowing the rich and powerful to take advantage of the weak.

In the feudal system, allot of power (through control of land and resources) was given to a few people by a king. These people would then do everything they could to take whatever they could at the cost of society and every other human that could be conned (that is generally in a different clan or family, though this didn't hold in all cases).

Such economic behavior (and an effect of Laissez-Faire Capitalism) was and is referred to as "Robber Barons";

What Does Robber Barons Mean? A disparaging term dating back to the 12th century which refers to: 1. Unscrupulous feudal lords who amassed personal fortunes by using illegal and immoral business practices, such as illegally charging tolls to passing merchant ships. 2. Modern-day businesspeople who allegedly engage in unethical business tactics and questionable stock market transactions to build large personal fortunes.

Regulating immoral business practices is an old function of modern democracies and modern economies. This is another reason why in the modern world government is mixed with private enterprise. To provide rules and a framework for a fairer society with more opportunity for all its citizens not just a few who happen to be on top and thus have the wealth and influence to get more and more while giving back less and less to the community that these individuals are from.

"Their main problem with Ron Paul... is because he won't pre-agree to start a war with Iran" - Jon Stewart
News Article from the time of the GOP primary:

Pentagon says Iran concerned primarily with deterring an attack

The Iran question is often posed, as it was in last week's debate to Ron Paul, as a hypothetical. If Iran was proven to have a nuclear weapon what steps would be taken by the US to assure they did not attack Israel? The establishment media is skillful in the presentation and structure of the debate. The question assumes it is the responsibility of the US to protect Israel from a strike by Iran. But more importantly it assumes that Iran has the ability and strategic desire to attack Israel.

This unclassified assessment of Iran's military capability by the US Department of Defense clearly states that "To ensure regime survival, Iran's security strategy is based first on deterring an attack."

The document goes on to make this key statement, "Iran's nuclear program and its willingness to keep open the possibility of developing nuclear weapons is a central part of its deterrent strategy."

But what if the unpredictable Ahmadinejad and company in Tehran suddenly changed their strategy and decided to go on the offensive? Fortunately they would not have the capability according to the DoD which states, "At present Iran's forces are sufficent to deter or defend against conventional threats from Iran's weaker neighbors such as post-war Iraq, the GCC, Azerbaijan or Afghanistan but lack the air power and logistical ability to power much beyond Iran's boarders or to confront regional powers such as Turkey or Israel."

Stated simply Iran wants to obtain the necessary weapons to defend itself in a bad neighborhood where it finds itself surrounded by a global superpower.

The hyping of the potential nuclear program in Iran is Washington's attempt to establish a pretext that would garner public support for a strike/destabilization campaign on Iran. The obvious goal would be regime change.

Moment of Zen: Notice at approx 1 minute - INTO THIS VIDEO - how the GOP news outlet argues for more war for it's ECONOMIC benefits.

Using private property rights you can keep the streams and rivers clean. Consider how in-effective the EPA has been in the past verses an alternative of having anyone affected by pollution, such as oil spills, can get recompenses for having thier life affected by thier greed - there is a danger to watch out for here & the part on property & media/info in the video below - people are beginning to sue for damage to the earth caused by fracking maybe one day we can sue for this air-pollution we are expected to tolerate despite huge advances in alternative energy simply because it is more profitable (you don't own the sun or the wind or our garbage).

More information (and videos) about PBS's Prohibition:

PROHIBITION is a three-part, five-and-a-half-hour documentary film series directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick that tells the story of the rise, rule, and fall of the Eighteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the entire era it encompassed.

Prohibition was intended to improve, even to ennoble, the lives of all Americans, to protect individuals, families, and society at large from the devastating effects of alcohol abuse. But the enshrining of a faith-driven moral code in the Constitution paradoxically caused millions of Americans to rethink their definition of morality.

Note: The Eighteenth amendment was an example of an amendment to the constitution that didn't work properly (prohibiting alcohol). The first 10 amendments are part of the Bill of Rights which can be considered to be part and parcel of the original constitution (at least, I haven't heard any arguments that would explain - with evidence - otherwise).

Notes:

1. 'Ron Paul is not an electable figure' this was the statement by everyone in the media at one time or another. Since I was fighting for Ron Paul for President when Rick Santorum dropped out and we started gaining on them... and Romney was declared winner, despite several other things that no one seems to remember,  I have a whole blog explaining his views. He is not as bad as the GOP owned media makes him out to be.

2. I remember one article talking about how facing Ron Pal was like facing a chasm as big as the Grand Canyon. It's true. Most people think it terms of wedge issues to win an election. At the end it comes down to picking up the people on the wedgiest of issues. For some strange reason, denying rape in the US military became a wedge issue at Fox News. Here are some other interesting correlations (notice that many correlations together build a case for a possible cause and effect relationship)

US Media: MSNBC, Fox News & CNN Are Connected In Many Ways

Violent Rhetoric In The US Is Common BUT Often STARTED By The War Party {2 Late 2 Stop It Now}

Moment Of Zen On US Media (Fox News/MSNBC/CNN)

The media consistently treats Ron Paul like 'he's the thirteenth floor in a hotel', yet he is the one that planted the grassroots that the establishment republicans are benefiting from now. Why is that?:

Types Of News Available In US TV Media (MSNBC/CNN/Fox)

Media basically goes through two types of phases - the goal of both is to make money (first version of this published here and second here):

Type 1 - Easily Distracted

Easily distracted like the dog in UP.

The media really does act like the dog in UP!

Squirrel!

Type 2 - Manufacturing Conflict to Attract & Keep Viewers

Because of a 24 hr news cycle one of the problems is that conflict MUST be manufactured to keep viewers.

Media manufactured 'race card' scandal creation. (They can also go the other way and make a racial case seem non-racial)

An Example of "Manufactured News": The Chris Christie said no but the media was bored so created his candidacy.

Chris Christie's media manufactured candidacy had gone on for a while.

New levels of media inappropriateness...

The Rock Block
Cable news networks seem to think their viewers need a hot, thumping beat to absorb basic information.  (04:21):

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

By starting off with rocking beats the news media is trying to attract viewers no matter what the cost in bad taste:
Picture
When you hear stuff like "rockin news" or the type of music being played you expect something allot more exciting than news stories that are serious with music set to it. This way it seems more like the media is celebrating people's misery. Anything to make a buck. Basically they are saying: Hey, if AXN can attract people with cop chases then we can too. Forget about appropriateness. Or as John Oliver puts it
Picture
... that cacophonous noise can help people process information... well, let me put it this way: You've sucked the fun out of rock and the weight out of news.

US Mainstream TV Media Summarized

All News In Fox News, MSNBC & CNN Is scripted & often coordinated:

All the news is scripted and the anchors are often required JUST to read what they are told to.

A situation where the script catches a script reader by surprise.

Moment of Zen - Bernie Goldberg Calls Jon a Racist: Fox News contributor, Bernie Goldberg, calls Jon a racist, but not because he believes it.

Fox News Is Run My Rupert Murdoch ... who manages to stay out of scrutiny of all three channels (Fox News, MSNBC & CNN) despite the extraordinary amount of news about him in the UK. Though if the story is too big to ignore then it will get a short play time on air and is removed. Like the recent Rupert Murdoch scandal which seemed to disapear before it even broke.

On Topic - Cable News - Fox News: The O'Reilly Factor, Fox & Friends and Glenn Beck are just a few of the programs Jon has to thank for keeping him in business.

Horrible Bosses - Fox News Won't Dumpster Dive: Instead of wasting its time with the epic scandal consuming Britain's journalistic establishment, Fox News investigates whether NPR is an agent of jihadist inquisition.

MSNBC is right next door to Fox News. Fox News & MSNBC BOTH qualify as "lamesstream media", especially when you realize that even Obama says NBC is not fully truthful.

On Topic - Cable News - MSNBCJon explores the horrible segues, questionable guests and mediocre stories that make MSNBC almost unwatchable.

Moment of Zen - Underwear and LattesMSNBC reports on what underwear and lattes tell America about the economy.

CNN is just horrible with occasional flashes of news that rarely lasts longer than the light of a firely.

On Topic - Cable News - CNN:Terrible segments, inappropriate stock footage and anchors who don't want to be there are a few reasons why CNN can't connect with viewers.

Moment of Zen - CNN's Choose the News: CNN viewers decide by text message which news stories they want to see in detail.

Nobody watches C-Span. Not even the media (whose job it's supposed to be).

On Topic - Cable News - C-SPAN: Putting people to sleep and tightening viewers' anuses are just some of the ways C-SPAN distinguishes itself

'Let It Not Be Said That We did Nothing'

Picture
NOTE: US Media is interconnected either directly through friendship and shills or indirectly through advertising/board-members to the GOP and thus follows it's wishes. If it didn'tthis electoral fraud cover-up by the GOP could never have been accomplished. Havinga voice on the left to get people to hate Ron Paul also helped allot. I remember cause I was there. Here rather. But it's gone. So nevermind.
